Day 4: Favorite rogues gallery
Spider-man’s Rogues
I think within the world of comics, or at least traditional western super hero comics, there are only four great rogues galleries and they belong to The Flash, Batman, Spider-man and Superman. I know that other comic books have recurring villains but only a few of them have been explored like the four mentioned above. If you look at how each one of them began you can really see how far along they’ve all come from being just things for the villains to hit to unique characters with wants and desires who work well as groups and who also help to define the heroes that they oppose by being a cracked mirror image of either the things they represent or the things that they can do.
That being said, with kudos to each of the Rogues galleries mentioned, the one I grew up with was Spider-man’s and so his were the first I ever saw explored in stories like Kraven’s Last Hunt and the many stories in the anthology series Tangled Web. Not to mention, for better or worse, it was Spidey’s rogues that gave us the death of Gwen Stacy which has permanently effected the comic book industry as well as being a fantastic story.
And so it begins!
Hey there, entire freakin’ internet and welcome to one of the many corners in which I preside!
I decided to start this blog because I’m attempting to write a comic script for Script Frenzy this year. The thing is I really want to turn this thing into a webcomic and when this script is done I’m gonna need to host that webcomic.
That place [hopefully] will be right here. I wanna blog about the writing process, the characters, the character designing process and the search for the artist because - well - I reckon it might be fun.
Along with writing the script I’m gonna be doing the Scans Daily 30 Days of Comic Book Meme. Partly because I reckon it’ll be a laugh and partly because I think having to talk about all of the things I love about comics will help me with writing.
Hopefully.
